White Marine was founded as a “Mom and Pop’ business in 1979 with the intent of servicing the tugboat and barge trade in NY harbor. As that business declined in the early 80’s, we found other markets that had similar characteristics, namely large component size and project immediacy. These other markets required and fostered growth on our part and increase in our capabilities. For example in the beginning we had no machine shop; our intent was to rely on outside services for this facet of repairs. After realizing that outside contractors would not prioritize our repairs in the manner that our customers required we started our own machine shop facility to accomplish our projects on our timeline. That machine shop grew to the present facility, which not only fulfills all of our needs, but is a stand alone profit center doing projects for other customers and contractors. Our fabricating facility operates in the same manner.
